Recruitment

Sisterhood is what makes Alpha Chi Omega so special to each of its members. From sisterhood functions to socials to community service events, Alpha Chis always know how to have a good time.

“Being in a sorority means loving each and every one of your sisters beyond their imperfections. Being an Alpha Chi means we are bound together by a bond that runs deeper than any law created by man. Being in this sorority is comes with an everlasting love for one another no matter what happens. It is more than an organization. Alpha Chi represents sisterhood. It is a second family, it’s your bridesmaids, and most importantly…it is your best friends. This support system will last for our whole lives.”
            -Cori Daido, 2010 Pledge Class

Sisterhood Events
One way Alpha Chis spend time together is through Sisterhood Events. There are many different types of sisterhood events, but the most important part of each one of them is enjoying time with sisters!

Each semester, the chapter sponsors a Sisterhood Retreat. These are often all-day trips that allow sisters to spend time together and bond.  Recently, Alpha Chis have gone to the Riverbanks Zoo with the Clemson Alpha Chi chapter, and gone whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River in North Carolina. There have also been recent trips to the lake for a picnic lunch and games, and a big dinner and movie night.  Additionally, the chapter hosts smaller, more frequent Sisterhood Events held at the house periodically throughout each semester that range from ice cream socials to game nights. One of the sisters' favorites is watching Grey's Anatomy, Glee, or Gossip Girl in the Red Room at the Alpha Chi house with yummy snacks from our wonderful house mom!

Social Functions

Each semester, Alpha Chi Omega sponsors three to five social functions to which chapter members can bring dates.

Fall Grab-A-Date
This event is the first function of the school year, and always a great time. This casual function makes it easy for sisters to help new members find dates! We often use the "Tie-the-Knot" theme, where each girl wears her date's tie.

Fall Band Party
The function's name explains it all! After a theme is chosen, so is a band that matches the time period or genre. Recent themes include "Shuck and Shag" and  "Hoedown."

Christmas Semi-Formal
This is usually the last function of the calendar year. Held just before final exams, it gives chapter members a last chance to dress up and have some fun before heading to the library and then leaving Columbia for Christmas break!

Spring Valentine's Grab-A-Date
The Valentine's Grab-A-Date gives chapter members a chance to celebrate the beginning of a new semester. The sisters have recently chosen themes such as “All-American,” “Famous Couples” and "Tacky Prom."

Senior Band Party
Always a favorite, the senior class decides this function's theme, band, date, and location, which makes it extra special for them! Past themes include "What Happens in Vegas,"  "Woodstock," and "Toga Party."

Golden Lyre Ball
Alpha Chi's formal function is usually the last of the spring semester, held just before final exams. One of the most important functions of the year, this formal celebrates the Senior Class and is always one to remember.

Other Functions
Alpha Chi Omega also has socials throughout each semester, where we mix with other fraternities and sororities at USC. Examples include the Halloween social, a St. Patrick's Day party, and a Mardi Gras mixer.

Parents & Alumni Functions

Parents are always very excited to learn about our chapter and their daughters' involvement in Alpha Chi.  In an attempt to encourage that interest, the chapter holds a parents cocktail every fall during Parents' Weekend.

The 2010 Parents' Cocktail!

Our 2010 Parents' Cocktail was held at Seawells in Columbia. Members brought their parents to meet friends, bid at the silent auction, and enjoy cocktails before dinner.  Proceeds from the auction benefit the Theta Upsilon chapter!

After dinner was served, the Vice President of Education began our academic presentation.  While everyone ate, parents learned of the outstanding academics we promote in Alpha Chi.  Members who received GPAs that were a 3.0 or better in the previous semester received awards, and we announced that the Alpha Chi GPA average well above the all women's and all sorority averages. Awards were also given to the roommates and Big Sis-Little Sis pair with the best combined GPAs.

After dinner, Theta Upsilon parents were able to view the slideshow of sisterhood pictures shown in round three of recruitment, and the members added to the show by singing along and performing a dance.  The night ended with dancing to a live band! Needless to say this event is a perfect time to introduce our parents to what Alpha Chi’s are all about!
